1966 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MK III BJ8 plus 1964 AH3000 MK II BJ7

Two project cars. 1966 Austin Healey 3000 Mk III Phase 2 BJ8 and 1964 Austin Healey 3000 Mk II BJ7 are offered for sale together.  Cars are being sold together, as is, for $32,000. Contact George at bj8@fastmail.com for more details and photos.

BJ8 is complete.  There is a British Motor Heritage Trust Certified Copy of Factory Record indicating a July 1965 construction date. Chassis number, engine number and body number match. Title indicates a 1966 model year.

BJ7 is substantially complete but does not have an original frame.  I have a ton of parts.  There is a Jule BJ7 frame, prepped and painted but never installed. The invoice for the frame indicates a price of $10,751.  The frame is for the BJ7 but minor changes to the fitment points for the radius rods would appear to make the chassis usable for the BJ8. The frame would require the addition of the attach points for the Phase II over-axle radius arms.  I need to look at this more closely but it appears quite doable.

There are two engines, one of which has already been overhauled by a machine shop that builds racing engines and is ready to be re-installed.  This was the original engine in the BJ8.  Oil control rings disintegrated and the engine let go but without damage to the cylinder walls. There are also three transmissions and two overdrives.  Two transmissions have been disassembled for inspection.  One overdrive was disassembled, inspected and re-assembled.

All body panels for the BJ7 are present, including at least two extra front wings.  Soft top, door panels and interior on the BJ8 are in very good condition.  Needs carpets.  Wood needs refinishing. Glass is very good.  Wire wheels, tires and many new parts are present.

The BJ8 was in an accident years ago. The right pedal box bracing is damaged as is the right control arm bracket, possibly from different events.  The required parts are available and the repair is simple and inexpensive.  The car drove fine before the engine problem. Even with the damage, the previous owner rebuilt the entire front suspension with new parts.  When I bought it in 2016, the car drove straight and braked straight.  A body shop could easily do the repairs or it could be reassembled as is.

One plan would be to remove the BJ8 parts and place everything on the Jule Frame.  This should be simple enough, if time consuming.  As they stand, there are sufficient parts to build two cars with some additions required.
