Austin-Healey 3000 Race Car For Sale - SOLD

Austin-Healey 3000 Race Car For Sale: Perhaps the most continually active and recognized big Healey vintage race car in the US.

With #28's current owner, it has logged over 100 race events at tracks that include Road America, Blackhawk Farms, Virginia International Raceway, Circuit of the Americas, Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen, Summit Point, Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park), Mid-Ohio, Brainerd International Raceway, Indianapolis Raceway Park, a number of hill climbs, street circuits, etc. All with vintage race bodies including Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association, Vintage Sports Car Racing, Sportscar Vintage Racing Association, Historic Sportscar Racing, and others.

The yellow #28 Big race Healey always finds itself at or near the top of the race grid. #28 is not just a warmed-over street Healey pretending to be a vintage race car on weekends, but rather an "I am taking no prisoners!" race car. In the last 27 years, #28 has put its current driver on the podium many times, always holding the Healey name high by winning trophy after trophy. Absolutely no component of this Healey has escaped attention as to how to make it faster and more reliable. This includes a custom engineered cooling system (never runs hot even with the HP it produces) reversed oil flow (never loses a bearing), 10 quart sump with one way doors to keep oil at the pump, HD remote oil filter, 3 quart Accusump, Dennis Welch steel billet crank, Arrow light weight rods, J.E. pistons, Super Damper, DMD aluminum block (believed to be the only one racing in the US and readily accepted by all groups it has run with, a direct copy of the factory aluminum blocks), DMD aluminum head, roller rockers, everything balanced and blue printed, triple Weber 45's, high flow and balanced intake manifolds, MSD ignition system, lighten aluminum flywheel, 7 1/4 Quarter Master dual disc clutch, bullet proof w55 transmission (a legal upgrade), Quaife limited slip, Panasport lightweight wheels, custom valved front lever shocks, custom built adjustable rear level shocks, GPS Speedometer (it doesn't lie!), Fuel Safe fuel cell, Holley fuel pump, filter and regulator, vintage Jag tri-puck front brake calipers, vintage rear disc brakes, Tilton twin circuit brake masters with adjustable on the fly balance bar, Kirkey race seat, SPA in car fire system….and the list goes on. One Healey race shop said it would take $150,000 and over a year of focused and dedicated work to duplicate this race Healey...they are not kidding!

The car's ownership histories can be traced back to 1982. Further history would require a deeper search, but it was believed that it was a race car from very early on. On its full frame off restoration it was discovered, under no less than 8 different paint layers of various race designs, #28 original factory color was yellow which it was returned to. In fact, a great deal of documentation, articles, and 5 race log books are included in the sale as well as a clear title. All race events and track times since 1997 are documented. #28 has also been signed by Gerry Coker and John Sprinzel.

On top of this, #28 is a true turnkey vintage race car. A full race season had been booked for #28 when I hung my helmet up for personal reasons. I hate to let such an amazing Healey go but it doesn’t deserve to sit and fade away in the corner of a building. #28 wants to win races and a race track is where it belongs. Included in the sale are spares that are unique to the car and those that normally follow it to the track. Asking $64,500 for #28.
